Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Being Sued by somone who ran into me.

About 2 months back I was moving to a bigger town so I could find a job. In the process I was getting very low on money, on welfare and child support trying to support my daughter & trying to get out of my slump & my car insurance couldn't be paid for that month, I had received a letter stating that it could be a month late that I cannot find now. I was getting gas from a station by the freeway, & as I pulled out a truck came out from a blind spot & hit my car sending it spinning into a ditch. I awoke out of the car broken out of my seatbelt from impact, my 4-year-old daughter calling to me. She was fine thankfully, though I had to go to the ER. Bed bound for over a week, no transportation, the car impounded and beyond repair. The car I hits front was a little smashed but not that bad off. They called & said they were moving in from British Columbia, but they sustained no real injuries. A private investigator has dropped off court papers to me for loss of wages, doctor bills, payment of car to use to work & etc. I just finally got a job & am working part time for minimum wage. I can't afford a real lawyer, but these people can't possible sue me for money I dont have. I don't know what to do with this.
