Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
I've been sued for a traffic accident and my insurance company is handling my defense. I'm told I will need to get my own attorney if I want to countersue. How long do I have to file a counter claim after being served? After my insurance company answers?

You must counter-sue at the time your insurance company files the answer if you want to counter-sue as a matter of right. After that you have to get permission from the court to file a counter suit. It will go a lot more smoothly for all concerned if your attorney and the insurance company's attorney coordinate in a joint representation from the start.
