Legal Question in Product Liability in California

Faulty auto repair
On 3-27-08, brought my car, 99 Passport to an auto repair shop for knocking noise and was told that he would rebuilt the whole engine. Gave $1000 down to start and $800 when done. I was told it will be done after a week. After 1 wk. the car was not ready and they kept saying tomorrow. I visited the car everyday and let them know that I need the car. They kept saying tomorrow and everything I call the mechanic's ph#, he does not answer. After 2 months had past, the car is still not done. They could not figure out what was wrong. The check engine lite does not go away. They told me that the machine shop did not put the inner parts correctly. The mechanic kept saying tomorrow he will get it done and I kept goin back with the same results. They even pushed the car to another shop and did not inform the other shop what the real problem was. He just told the shop to fix the problem. After 2 mths, I was told several times that the car was ready, paid in full $800 and everytime I drive it away, I kept going back next day bec. same prob. I am getting tired. I took it home today 6/10/08 to test drive again but he told me not to come back again (no warranty). I had to cancel my travel plans because of this. Go to another shop and to small claims court.
