Legal Question in Product Liability in California
Do I have grounds to file legal action against a manufacturer of a night light when the night light began to pop, spark, and burn up before I had to pull it out of the wall? My concern is had I not been there my house may have caught on fire.

You have legal grounds to sue for all the monetary damages that resulted from the defective night light, which means in your case the cost of the nightlight. So if you want to spend $395 to sue for, what, $10?, go for it. The law is not a lottery that you win if you wind up with a dangerous product. It is a vehicle for reimbursement of losses that someone else should have to pay. No losses, no lawsuit.
