Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

adding sun protection to a window

HI!

I have a question. I have been living in an apartment for 2.5 years on a month to month lease. In the summer, it gets really hot here in the san fernando valley. My main apartment window faces to the sun at sunset, so it can get awefully hot in my apartment at this time. My question is this:

Can I add White cardboard and tape it over my windows to reflect the heat? It does not look bad at all and it is inside my apartment. Can the manager tell me to take it down legally? Thanks for all your time and help!

:)

Re: adding sun protection to a window

It is not illegal, but it may violate your lease. Put it up and see if the manager or anyone complains. If it is a problem, sit down with the manager and ask what he suggests you do to keep the unit tolerable.
