Bankruptcies can and do wipe-out many types of judgments. Filling for bankruptcy instantly stops all collection activity including bank account levies and foreclosures. The bankruptcy attorney you consult will be able to advise you whether Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 will be best for you, or whether you should file for bankruptcy protection at all, based on a thorough analysis of your income, assets, and debts.

Most pre-existing judgments are discharged in bankruptcy filed under any available chapter. The most common exceptions are judgments based upon most kinds of fraud, drunk-driving accidents, and child-support obligations. There are a few others.
