Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Barking dog causing dispute

I recently moved into this apartment in December. About 3 weeks ago I notified the management office that another dog was pooping in front of our patio so they would not assume it was my dog. Suddenly for the past week I have been getting calls saying the my dog has been barking during the day and that I am not allowed to leave my dog in the patio. I specifically asked the rental consultant when we moved in if it was okay to leave my dog out in the patio since she is pretty old and apt to have accidents if left indoors. He said yes and even went as far as to say ''think of your apartment as your home...the only thing you cannot do is nail things to the outer wall of the patio'' I looked over my lease and can't find anywhere where it talks about pets and patios. What can I do?

Re: Barking dog causing dispute

Your lease appears to permit you to leave the dog in the patio, but probably also requires compliance with all laws. Many cities and counties have a noise ordinance that specifically includes dogs barking. Check it out before you get too assertive.
