Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
my boyfriend and i are moving in together. he owns a home and so do i. he is moving into my home, that i own solely in my name. we developed a budget for joint expesnes (household/vacation/entertainment). he is going to rent out his place. So he will split the mortgage with me 50/50. he has great credit and so do i. we both have read the pitfalls of joint accounts (the legal ownership issues, etc...) we want to have a joint account anyway to make it easier, but i have a question.
can he claim any ownership of my home because the joint account is the account my mortgage will be paid out of and the money it came from both of us?

Yes, he could claim that. There is a good chance it would be unsuccessful, but he could claim it. There are all kinds of claims and accusations that can be made in the event a financially mingled relationship goes bad. It sounds like the two of you have significant enought assets and financial wherewithall that you really need a cohabitation agreement that, if not written by, is at least reviewed and "tweeked" by a family law attorney.
No, not unless you were lawfully married, or you had what is known as a "Marvin" agreement between you.
