can i break my lease for my landlord not wanting to repair items

Only if it's so bad as to make it a habitability issue.
Otherwise you have to either move out and sue for the difference between the rental value in proper condition versus the value with the repairs needed, or you can stay and sue for that or specific performance if there's a maintenance clause in the lease.
