Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Breaking a lease

The situation is that the company I work for is moving me to another state; therefore, my lease for the apartment I rent will not be up. Do I have any recourse or any way to legally break the lease? I have to move due to the needs of the company. What does the lease state in regards to an employer moving an employee to another state? Can I legally break the lease?

Re: Breaking a lease

Whether you can get out of your lease depends upon two things: the terms of the lease and your landlord. A lease is just a contract, and what you can and can't do is dictated by the language of the contract. You should see a lawyer and have him or her read your lease and tell you whether you can get out of it. However, you might try just asking your landlord. If he or she is nice, there might be no objection to your moving out early regardless of what the lease says. Try asking nicely.
