Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

in california los angeles county i rented a two bedroom duplex i paid move in fee total 3 months rent, about 1 month later i learned that the lanlord was not the legal owner of the property that almost a year earlier the proprty was sold to a bank at a public aution, i was first given a verbal 30 day notice two weeks later i recieved a five day notice to vacate the next week i was served with a forced entry and detainer summons is there anything i can do i am a victim just as much as the bank and i just need some time to save up enough money to relocate being that the move in cost are very expensive

This sounds like rent skimming. Find the California Civil Code at a law library or on line, and look at Sections 890 through 893.
