Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

I bought a home 2 years ago, the water heater in the basement began to run water so I called home depot to order & have a new water heater installed. Once they got here they couldn't install it because the old water heater wasn't into codes they wouldn't touch it, I also found out that because it had no ventilation, carbon monoxide was being released into the home. We do experience headaches, nausea & vomiting but didn't know where it was coming from. The inspection company said everything was ok and it passed including the water heater & now I want to hold them the home inspection company and anyone else accountable for this neglect this whole time we been exposed to carbon monoxide. I have small children that were complaining about headaches, nausea, vomiting and dizziness. One of the kids bedroom is near basement. What can I do to hold them responsible for allowing escrow to go through by them saying it was ok. What kind of damages am I looking at? This is very serious to me how long would we been exposed to this dangerous gas if the water heater never would of started leaking heavily? We also was told by the previous homeowner the water heater was new. Found it wasn't!

Exactly more or less than two years? Possibly the legal time limit for suing is up.
