Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
cat policy
My landlord said that I cannot have a cat. My lease states ''No cats or dogs allowed in the house at all.'' Can I still have a cat if it stays outside? If the answer is no, can he evict me if I decide to have the cat anyway and he sees it?

I don't think the animal control agency would be happy to have you keep a cat outside. The cat will kill birds, squirrels, etc.
The lease may be construed in your favor, because the landlord wrote it. However, if you are on a month to month lease the landlord can change it on 30 days written notice. Otherwise he can change it when your lease renews.
If you violate your lease, the landlord can serve a three-day notice to perform covenant. If you don't remove the cat within the 3 days, he can evict you.
