This is really an unnecessary step, even if you are taking back your maiden name. If for some reason you feel you need to change title, it's a relatively easy matter of preparing, having notarized, and recording a deed from yourself to yourself, describing yourself in your capacity as grantor as title now stands, and yourself as grantee the way you want to hold title in the future, including the new name. Be careful about your wording, especially the description of the property. You might get a preprinted California grant deed form from a legal stationer or a local title or escrow office, and you might want professional assistance in filling it in. Be sure the recorder's clerk who accepts it for recording is made aware that grantor and grantee are one and the same person and there should be lower fees and no taxes.
