Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

collecting back rent from boarder

I rent out a room in my home to an individual (on a weekly basis) who has slowly but surely fallen substantially behind. Is there anything I can do to collect from him if I ask him leave my home?

Can I withhold his personal possessions (furnishings, tools, truck)for collateral? Can I file a small claims court action against him? Can I have his wages attached, if I win in small claims court? HELP ! I feel as if I get rid of him I will never be able to collect. If I don't get him out, the money he owes will just get larger!! HELP!
