Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Can I contest(with merits) an outrageous landlor's bill of repair
I am not sure that this is a renters rights case but this is my problem: A few months ago a friend had stupidly written a message for me on the intercom panel, clearly imitating my guilt and responsibility which I do except. The bill I received, though, is completely outrageous ending in a $ 545.33 balance along with a few mistakes on the bill mainly a slightly wrong street number as the address. I wonder if I can legally contest to this outrageously huge demand for repair of slight damage to a plastic covering on an inexpensive intercom panel. My landlords acting manager and I have not been getting along on a personal level, something I think I can prove by a letter I received, accusing me of ridiculously small violations like 1 incident of a ball being bounced twice in the building's hall, and letting cooking odors escape into the common corridor by me opening my door. How do I contest this situation (namely the bill)?

I may have some good news for you. You are not legally responsible for the damage, your idiot friend is. Send the bill to him and let him worry about it.
