Two things come to mind immediately. First, inform your insurance carrier. In most such cases, the homeowner insurance policy covers such situations and the insurance company needs to know all the details immediately, and it will probably take over the defense of the lawsuit. Second, if you don't have insurance or it doesn't cover this situation, contact a defense lawyer at once. The most-frequently successful defense in dog bite cases is that the owner had no reason to think his dogs might be vicious and attack a human. If the dogs have a bad history, you are likely to lose. Act now.
I agree with Mr. Whipple. Especially if you have already been served with the lawsuit papers you must take immediate action.
