What is the definition of a bedroom in Los Angeles

My friend is selling a house in Los Angeles (well, the valley). He grew up in a bedroom that he is calling a den. What is the legal definition of a bedroom? My understanding is that for something to be a bedroom, it had to have exterior exposure (window or door), and it had to have a closet. He says that if they bought it as a den, it is a den. What do you all say?

You can call a bedroom a den, but in order to call any room a bedroom it needs a closet.
