Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

domestic situation and 30 day notice

I have been living in a large luxury complex for 12 months.

I have always paid my rent on time and have never had any complaints.

I recently had a situation with an ex- boyfriend and the police were called. He was believed to be inside my apartment holding someone hostage. That was not the case and the police were wrong. Many tenants were not allowed access into the building and complained.

7 days later I received a 30 day notice of nonrenewal of lease.I had a 9 month lease and have now been here 12 months. My question is can this be legal?

I was the victim here. There had never been any police called to my house and this was not an ongoing situation.

Am I still entittled to get my deposit back?

There is no reason, from the facts given, that they should keep your deposit.
