Re: EscroTitle

You have the cost of the lawyer to make sure it's done right; the cost of the notary ($10); the cost of recording the deed ($15-$25). That should be it.

Re: EscroTitle

Adding someone to title costs a few bucks at the time it's done.

It can cost somewhere between a jillion and a zillion later on, if done without forethought as to the possible consequences, which range from foregoing capital-gains tax avoidance when prospective heirs are added to pass property between generations, property tax increases due to re-appraisal of property that enjoyed Prop. 13 benefits, and costs of litigation when the co-owners, or their heirs or other successors have a falling out and must resort to a partition lawsuit.

There are good reasons and bad reasons for tampering with title as presently held. Get professional advice before doing it!
