Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My ex fiancee gifted me a vehicle back in 2008 that he never paid taxes on. I am getting a bill for this from the California state board of equalization. Am I responible to pay this?

Although vehicles aren't real estate, I'll attempt an answer. I believe the obligation to pay most vehicle taxes, such as registration and license fees, go along with ownership of the vehicle, and therefore you, as the registered owner, are liable for them. If in doubt, inquire with the Department of Motor Vehicles. At least the DMV appears to have you listed as the owner! A lot of gift vehicles never get officially transferred from the donor to the donee.
