Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

We filed bankrutcy (chapter 13) last Nov. 2010 included our home and moved out from that place last Dec. 2010. After that we received the letter from Association (our place) regarding the the maintenace of condominium. Light fixture got damaged after we moved out so Association want us fix the light fixture even though we filed bankuptcy. Do we have to fix the light fixture even after we filed bankruptcy?

I am not a bankruptcy lawyer, and in order to get truly expert answers I suggest you re-ask your question under the LawGuru bankruptcy topic heading, rather than real estate.

Nevertheless, based on a lawyer's general knowledge, I'd say a bankruptcy filing probably results in a discharge of debts that existed as of the date and hour the case was filed. If the damage and the liability associated therewith occured after the bankruptcy filing, the claim may not, in fact probably isn't, discharged in the bankruptcy.

However, a full and accurate answer would probably have more to say, so I urge you to re-ask or at least wait and see what other LawGuru attorneys have to say.
