Friend trying to help mental patient with eviction

My friend of 30 years has been admitted into a mental hospital. His only relative is in another state and does not return my calls. Because I am not a family member I am not able to get information on my friend's condition nor possible length of stay. He has an eviction notice and I wish to move his things into storage before they are seized and sold. May I hire a locksmith and enter his property?
