Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My friends' mom was late on her car payment,so the dealership decided to take the car back.Turns out my friend left his school bag with $210 worth of books in it,and the dealership says he cant have those.Is that legal for the dealership to take away his school books?

No, the owner of a repossessed car is legally entitled to their personal property in the car. Call the cops if you have to. Repo'ing a car is not theft, but stealing the contents is. Also, if they did not register the repo with the cops before taking the car back, the repo is illegal.
