Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My girlfriend and I recently broke up and she owes me a large sum of money, over $6000. I have receipts of these expenses: One is a pet hospital bill for her dog, the other a Dentist bill. There are more but I have forfeited those expenses due to lack of receipts and was trying to be nice by limiting her debt to things that are definitely HER debts 100% . We never put in writing that she would pay me back. Are the receipts enough for me to win in small claims court. The dog is registered in her name. She says, as she has said for over a year, she will start paying me when she can. She just admitted she is looking to buy a car and when I asked again about the $$ she says again that she would pay me when she can. I am frustrated and want this issue resolved so I may move on from the relationship but even with payments, we will be in each others life an uncomfortable amount of time.

Help,

Morgan

What do you have to lose in going to SCC? If she has no counter-claim against you and you have already paid the bills, nothing can be awarded against you. If you want to get a judgment but not have any contact in collecting from her, you can sell the judgment at a steep discount to a collection agency. As many receipts as you lhave will help show that you paid the bills but unless they ar efor the dog or clearly female products you may have problems in showing they are her items. If yo can get her to state in a letter that she owes you for the itmes or at least that they were for her use and you bought them, your will be in better shape.
