Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Grantee/Grantor

i cannot figure out what is meant by grantor and grantee. if i own land and am selling it, am i the grantee? or the grantor? could i get a simple example of what these two words mean?

grantor is the same as the seller, transferor and the grantee is the buyer,transfere or gives it and ee recieves it

And the grantee is the person to whom the property is transferred -- the buyer.

Generally, in legalese the " --or" person is the one who does the act (i.e., the grantor makes the grant) and the " --ee " person is the one affected by the act.

Another example is "donor" (one who gives) and "donee" one who receives a gift. We also have lessor and lessee, mortgagor and mortgagee, vendor and vendee, etc.

Interestingly, the one who breaks out of prison is called an "escapee," and not an "escapor" or "escaper" -- actually, the warden should be called the "escapee," not the fleeing felon.
