Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

How to Hold Title on House - Husband being sued

My husband and I are in the process of purchasing a house. We are unsure how to hold title on the house. My husband and his first wife had some financial problems and owe a large amount in back taxes for which he is making monthly payments. Also, my husband is self-employed and is currently named as a defendant in a law suit. How can we protect the house from creditors?

Re: How to Hold Title on House

Well, holding title in your name may provide some protection but there are ways around that. I would at least consult with a bankruptcy attorney. Much of the back taxes could be dischargeable and it is almost certain the lawsuit is too. Depending on the equity, you would also get to keep the house. If you are in southern California you can give me a call. I would be happy to discuss your situation without charge.
