Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Home contracts

We are in the process of purchasing a home. We were aware of rooms that were not permitted but we were told it was all taken care of. The agent then told us that we could move into the propery before escrow closed and just pay a small sum of rent. Both my boyfriend and myself sign a contract only to be told 2 days later that the county would arrest us if we did not vacate the premisses. We did as we were told but we still are awaiting the purchase. I just want to know if we had to move out or could we have stayed?

Re: Home contracts

You were given a bum steer. If the landlord or agent voluntarily

allowed your tenancy, then you would have to be evicted through an unlawful

detainer action: you could not simply be arrested.
