Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My home is paid for and is in a living trust. But I want to add a family member to that trust. Two questions 1) what does it take to add a trustee and 2) can that new trustee be able to co-sign for an equity loan against the the current house even if the new trustee is not on the Deed by name?

You need to amend the trust to add a co-trustee. The co-trustee will not assume personal liability if he signs in the capacity of Co-trustee. If you want him to be a cosigner or to guarantee he needs to sign in his individual capacity. Seek counsel ( most likely the attorney who prepared the trust).
