Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Installation of satellite dish

Are there any laws/codes/statutes that require landlords to permit tenants to attach/install a television satellite dish (i.e. those mini dishes currently on the market) and/or a television antenna to the building/structure? If so what are the responsibilities of the tenant relating to possible damage during installation and/or removal? Cable TV services are available in the area and accessible by each tenant. Has this issue been challenged in the courts? Please note this issue relates to a landlord tenant relationship NOT a condo owner association matter. Thanks!

Re: Installation of satellite dish

I dont have the exact cite but I believe there are some FCC rulings on this subject. As I recall, the landlord cannot stop you from erecting an antenna as long as it is not a permanent installation. That means you cant make any holes anywhere and you cant nail or screw it to anything. For more info you might check www.arrl.org
