jewlery as a security deposit

my mother used her wedding ring as a deposit later the landlord would not fix the apartment up it was unlivable she said she would not pay rent until he fixed the apartment he refused so she left he ended up filing an eviction on her and kept her ring did she have reasonable cause to leave and did he have the right to file eviction on her now it is on her credit report. help i need to know how long does this last on your record

If the landlord kept her deposit after she moved out. She'll have to sue the landlord to recover her deposit. The judge can find that the unit had no rental value. Or the judge may find that the unit had some rental value. Although the value is less than the agreed to rent.

If you believe that the value of the ring exceeded any rent that you owed, you should file a lawsuit (up to $5,000) in small claims court.
