Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Landlord refuses to make repairs

In January (8 months ago), we had a plumbing problem at our apartment, that caused the major flooding of one of the two bedrooms. We dried out the carpet ourselves, but one of the walls has collected mold, and the floor is totally warped. Luckily, there was not a lot of furniture damage. I notified the on-site ''landlord'' of this event and problems (he was aware of the faulty plumbing), and he notified the property management co. The company came and inspected the property in March, and agreed to fix it. Since then, I have talked to them twice, and sent them three letters regarding the problem. We no longer have an on-site landlord, but the Company tells me they are going to fix it. I think they are just stalling, and I have considered taking them to small-claims court for back rent. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Landlord refuses to make repairs

Contact the local building code enforcement department, and the llocal health department. From your description there may building code violations. The mold very probably is a health hazard. Good luck.
