Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Landlord Selling The House We Rent

We've rented a house in Woodland HIlls, CA for about the last 12 years. Appx. the last 6 have been without a lease. The landlord called 2 days ago to say he's selling the house and we will have to move out. What are our rights, if any, regarding the length of time we have under California Law?

Thanks for the help

Re: Landlord Selling The House We Rent

Assuming you've been paying and the owner/landlord has been accepting rent monthly, you are on a month-to-month tenancy by implication and that is terminable by either the landlord or the tenant upon 30 days' notice, which can be given at any time of the month. The fact that the landlord is selling the house has little effect on your rights and obligations unless you live in a rent-controlled community where local ordinances provide special rules for termination of tenancies.
