Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Landlord, Tenant, Neighbor Issues
We're homeowners living next to a recently prchsd & ''remodeled'' foreclosed SFH.
The owner, insisted they were fixing it up: landscape, new paint, etc., to rent.
That was cool. They also said No Sec 8. Even better.
Except, 2 months later, no plants, no paint, several unfinished projects and a Sec 8
tenant. We confronted the landlord and they gave us some BS about not finding ''real''
tenants.
The house was inspected by Sec 8 but, are possibly getting
more money than they should... legally. The tenant's case worker also
inspected the home and said the rent was too high. (it's being classified by
owner as a 3 BR but, it's a 2 BR with add-on closet! No partition!
(3BR@$1785 vs. 2BR@$1275)
We want to call out the owner on her misgivings to have the rent lowered
because of substandard issues: unfinished projects, construction holes left
along the side of the house, general disinterest in tenants concerns, never
replaced old window coverings, broken fencing, no heat in half the house...
just slummy. We think the tenant is afraid to confront her and loose her
home. Who can we contact to bring this to light?
Also, side Q: We took photos of blighted issues, is this illegal?

Re: Landlord, Tenant, Neighbor Issues
If conditions at your neighbor's house violate local ordinances, contact your city or county. Otherwise, I don't see any reason for you to get involved.
