Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Did landlord violate my tenant rights/ Legal recourse available?

My husband and I own a small grocery business with a 5 yr lease on the building. Over a year is left on the lease.

The landlord, without our knowledge, listed our business for sale in two largely circulated local publications. This upset our customers and started alot of rumors that we feel were detrimental to our business.

My question is......Do we have any legal recourse against the landlord for punitive damages.

Thank You for any advice

Depends upon the terms of the lease and the exact ownership of the business. Your question leaves out to many important details for an answer. You nedd to go over the lease and the ownership issues with an attorney. You may have an excellent case for public disclosure of private facts.
