Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Can landlord keep window a/c & security door

A little over a year ago, I was living in a unit next door, but prior to my moving out, I installed a window A/C unit (temperatures reached 90+ in the unit). Shortly thereafter my apt. was broken into through a back door. I then installed a security door with the manager's permission. The bigger unit next door became available so I moved there, but the manager said that I should leave the a/c because the new tenant already saw it there (& there was--name removed--a/c already in the new unit) and then he went ahead and paid for another security door in my new unit (which I again installed). I have requested reasonable reimbursement for both items (actual cost, approx. $140), but said that the owner didn't want to pay. Can he keep these items without reimbursing me anything?
