Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Landlord/Tenant Legal Rights

I will be moving soon. I have been at my residence for 11 years. Someone told me that I can expect to receive interest on the $600.00 Security Deposit that is due me. Is that the law now? Also, I would like to verify that I should receive my deposit back within 3 weeks after vacating. Is this also true?

Thank You.

It is my understanding that the landlord is not required to pay interest, but if the landlord puts the security deposit into an interesting bearing account the interest belongs to the tenant.
