Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Lease break fee
6 months ago I signed a 12 month lease with an apartment complex. At that time I was told the fee to break the lease was one months rent ($1000). Now that I wish to break the lease I am being told that policy has changed and it is now two months rent. My lease has no mention of any any fee. Can the lanlord make these changes? Thank you for your help!!!!

Re: Lease break fee
Since the lease says nothing about a cancellation fee, the landlord is not bound. He can change his demand. The lease commits you to twelve months, and it takes a new agreement to undo the lease. Start negotiating.
