Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Lease Termination

I am breaking my one year lease for a one bedroom apartment. The rental company has asked me to pay the rent till they/or I find someone who will rent this apartment.

Instead of renting my current apt. I've found someone who will rent a 2 bedroom apartment in the same complex. However, the company said it is against the housing laws to rent out a 2 bedroom apt. against my apartment and allow me to break the lease.

Is this true? The rental company is going to get more money as they will be getting rent for a 2 bedroom instead of a 1 bedroom. Please advice!!! Thanks.

Re: Lease Termination

I don't think that it is against housing laws, but they may have been able to find someone to rent a 2 bedroom themselves, more easily than they could find someone to rent a 1 bedroom.

You need to find someone who will rent your apartment, not another one. Keep trying.
