Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
what are legal grounds for evicting in-law cohabitants
My wife and I own a home and rent to my father-in-law. He has two teenage daughters living with us. The children are noisy and disrespectful and continually disobey our house rules. My father-in-law shows no interest in controlling their behavior despite many requests. Is an inability to get along legal grounds to begin an eviction process?

T he landlord is not required to give a reason for a 30 day notice to quit. However when it involves family as in your case, it is more difficult to just give a 30 day notice. Your best approach may be to tell your father in law that the problem must be solved or they will have to move. You and your wife must clearly state what changes are required and set a time line for them to comply, or leave.
