liability for gas leak 7 mos after sale of house

Are we responsible for a gas leak that we new nothing about under the patio stab going to the BBQ that we built. We did disclose that we were unsure how deep the gas line was. New owners are just now telling us about it and said they have smelled gas for the past 7 months. Which also concerns us. Why didn't they have it checked out sooner?
