Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I looked at a house for rent in Mar Vista (Los Angeles) which had no form of heating. The owner said I would have to provide my own source of heat (space heaters). Is that legal? I've not before encountered this situation. Thank you!

No, a landlord is required to provide a certain level of heating. If there is no heating system, what else is wrong with the place?

An operable heating system (NOT space heaters even if landlord provided) is on of the few specifically listed requirements for a rental property to be habitable under the Civil Code.
