Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I lost all my posessions in a fire at my godmothers house. Since the fire she has a conservator( her niece) that says that her lawyer says to not re-imburse me for my losses. I've talked to her and have sent her the inventory of my personal items lost in the fire.Since the incident happened in california and she lives in washington st. do I make my claim against the estate of my godmother? I paid for the house insurance and property tax for the last 15 yrs.

The issues are fairly complex. I'd start out by investigating the insurance coverage. The fact that you were paying the premium is not decisive on the question of whether your loss is covered, but at least the insurance agent who reaped commissions from you all tose years has both a moral and legal obligation to discuss coverage of your loss. As to where to make a claim and against whom, I would postpone that decision until you have input from the insurer, who may have a duty to pay, or to prosecute, your claim.
