Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My mom purchased a vehicle for me in her name but I have made all the monthly payments on time for 4yrs, now she is angry about something totally unrelated and wants the car back with less than 6mos left to pay. Do I have to return it to her since I've made every payment ? Please help.....

Your mother has legal title but you have equitable title [title that results from the application of fairness and the actual facts of the situation]. Having made all the payments and an agreement with your mother that you would purchase a vehicle through her, you are entitled to the car. Demand that she change the vehicle DMV title , check with the car dealer to see if the change is ok with them [they may object].
