Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
money used for credit check
I am looking for an apartment. Every apartment I go to I have to give the twenty to forty dollars for a credit check. I have had four rentals deny me the rental because of so called "bad credit".
Why can't I get my money back. It gets expensive and how do I know they really spent that money fo crdit check.

Re: money used for credit check
See Civil Code Section 1950.6: if you are charged, the landlord
must send you an itemization of the out-of-pocket expenses, and a
refund of any amount you paid over the cost of the credit report. Also,
if you request, the landlord must provide a copy of the credit report
to you.
