Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I got a motorcycle for a friend under my name. He was making the payments, until there was an accident and the motorcycle got totally damaged. He only had liability, so the GAP insurance won't cover the cost of the motorcycle. He refuses to keep making the payments - the balance left is about $ 18000. Can I take him to court?

Oh. This partially answers the insurance question. I'm surprised anyone would lend $18K+ on a motorcycle without requiring casualty insurance. Yeah, discuss it with a local lawyer and see if you have enough evidence to make a strong case; also, can the guy pay a judgment if you win?
