Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Our neighbor wants to take out a tree that is leaning over the roof of our home. We want the tree out too. The tree cannot be removed without working on our property and the contractor may need to be on our roof. We just installed a new deck and had major concrete work around our home last year. If we allow the contractor on our property, what documentation should we receive to avoid all liability? What documentation is needed to ensure the contractor/neighbor pays for any damages to our property?

The contractor should be licensed, bonded and insured. The insurance is the most important. You might ask your own insurance agent whether you should ask the contractor for a certificate naming you as an additional insured under its policy for the duration of the job.
