Occupancy laws

hello we just added 1490 sq ft onto our 1500 sq ft house..thats 6 bedrooms and 4 baths...legally how many family members can we allow to live here...we have two daughters, their fiances, one 9yr old grand son, a grandbaby on the way, a 24 yr old son, an older brother and two elderly parents....we also have only 4 cars between all those people...we just wondered cause we have crabby neighbors..thanks..ann

The answer to your question depends upon the zoning laws, and any municipal occupancy restrictions for wherever you are located. If you made the additions legally with a permit, your contractor should be able to give you some information, as the city or county would have had to issue the permits.

You should consult an attorney familar with local zoning laws. Occupancy load limits are almost always governed by local zoning ordinances. You can also contact your local building or zoning department and get the information by giving them you address and/or parcel number.
