After an offer is made and presented to the seller, how long or time period before they have to answer to the buyers?

The offer will state a time period for how long it is possible to accept it. You may want to read some Nolo Press books [written for the lay person] on purchase and sale of homes so that you know what to look for as this is a major economic move and you can not just rely upon the real estate sales person.

It depends on the terms of the offer. As they say in contract law, the one who makes the offer is the master of the offer.
