Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California
Off-site landlord trying to change how rent is paid
I am currently on a 1 yr lease. On the lease it states rent monies shall be paid to a Po Box the first of every month. My landlord (who lives off site, there is no property manager) just told me today that she now wants me to go deliver my rent check to a man that is not an owner who lives in my same city on the first because the mail is too slow. My question is can she do this and if she can does she have to draw up a new lease?
I would appreciate any help

Re: Off-site landlord trying to change how rent is paid
Unless you object to this procedure, any written request from the landlord to change the place or method of payment should be adequate. For your convenience you might ask the landlord to have the man who collects the rent come pick it up.
If you do object, you can refuse to change the lease until the one year is up. Then the landlord can require you to agree to change it if you want to stay there.
